Educational accomplishments. Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the Eastman School
of Music as a flute student of Joseph Mariano, and completed his D.M.A. studies
(ABD) at the University of Illinois. Grants and Awards include the Fellowship
in the Creative and Performing Arts from the University of Illinois, the Eastman
School Graduate Scholarship, and the Eastman School's Performer's Certificate.
Family
history: Two daughters-Tamera and Trina Grandchildren Matthew 14, Stephanie
11, Logan 11 and Tatum 8-all live in So. CA
Achievements
and Occupational History: Retired from principal flute of the Quad City Symphony
in 2008-a position he held since 1978. Has been principal flute of the Milwaukee
Symphony Orchestra, the New Orleans Summer Pops Orchestra, the Eastman Symphonic
Wind Ensemble (under the direction of Frederick Fennell) and the Eastman Philharmonia
(under the direction of Howard Hanson). He has also been a member of the Rochester
Philharmonic, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Rochester Civic Orchestra, the New
Orleans Opera House Orchestra, the American School Woodwind Quintet (Fountainebleau,
France with Nadia Boulanger), and has played with the St. Louis Symphony.
Retired
from Western Illinois University where since 1966 he was Professor of Flute and
a founding member of the Camerata Woodwind Quintet-ensemble-in-residence at WIU.
He currently resides in Chicago. Still teaches Summer Flute Courses at Illinois
Valley Community College and the Westminster Choir College Conservatory in Princeton,
New Jersey--Also have taught at the Eastman School of Music, the University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the University of Illinois, and DePaul University, Chicago.

Reunions attended: None-until now they always occurred
on weekends I had to work.
Other
personal comments: I am so happy to be able to attend this, my first Fortier reunion.
I have little contact with my hometown now, but it still occupies a large place
in my heart.
